How to Record Screen on Mac

There could be a number of reasons why you need to record your Mac screen - for recording an error to send to tech support, or to show someone how to do something in an app, or simply showing off the latest ‘kill’ in your favourite game. Whatever the reason, it's pretty easy to make a recording of your screen on a Mac. All you need to do is run Apple’s own QuickTime - which comes as a pre-installed application on every Mac Pc- and use the screen recording feature that’s already baked in.

The QuickTime recording also gives you a couple of interesting options, such as recording only part of the screen - helpful if you want to make a tutorial that's uncluttered, for example. It also lets you select audio input sources, if you want to record a voice-over instead of just the on-screen contents. Here's what you need to know in order to record the screen on your Mac.

How to record the screen on Mac
  •     Launch QuickTime Player from your applications.
  •     Click on File > New Screen Recording

  •     A small recording control panel pops up, and you can simply click the red Record button to start recording the screen of your Mac. If you prefer, you can tweak some options before you start recording. Click the small arrow pointing downwards next to the record button. Here you can choose to show mouse clicks in the recording, and which microphone to use for audio. You can choose none if you just want to record the contents of your screen, but if you want to add some spoken instructions, you could choose the internal mic, or an external mic if one is plugged in.
  •     Once you start recording, you'll see a tip telling you to click to start recording, or drag a window to record only that part of the screen. You can choose whichever suits your needs on that front.
  •     Click the stop button in the menu bar (the bar at the top of your Mac’s screen) on the recording control panel when you're done.

You can then preview the video, and save it. That's all there is to it, and it works perfectly.  The resulting video also looked fine, so this looks like a simple and reliable method anyone can use.

If you need to record the screen of your Mac, give this method a shot, and tell us about your experience via the comments.

Google Chrome To Finally Let You To Export Save Password

Google Chrome already has an inbuilt password manager which users can sync between other devices. However, Google is now working on enabling users to export passwords for use in third-party managers. This essentially means that Google Chrome users will be able to export their saved passwords in a text file in a simpler way. While it was possible to do this earlier as well, but with the new feature that Google is planning, the process will get much easier. The feature is currently available on the Chrome Dev channel on desktop.

Chrome, on desktop and smartphone, lets users save passwords to make it easy to autofill details during the next login. In fact, once the pop-up is accepted, the browser itself becomes a password manager. However, some users may wish to use another password manager app, or a shift to a different browser. Exporting passwords is useful for users while moving on to other browsers, another platform, or even a password manager. As we mentioned, the feature is available on the Chrome Dev channel on desktop, and users need to go to Settings > Manage passwords, where they will see a new overflow menu near Saved Passwords. Tapping on it gives users the option to export passwords as a CSV file, one that can be used by other password managers.

First reported by Chrome evangelist Francois Beaufort on Google+, the feature currently has no timeline as it is still being tested by developers. The option is expected to hit the stable channel soon, but in the meantime, can be enabled by using a flag setting. Users need to paste chrome://flags/#password-export into their navigation or address bar, and you will change from Default to Enable, it will enable the export passwords option in the Saved Passwords overflow menu.

Recently, Google rolled out the Chrome 65 for desktops and Android. The Chrome version 66 is expected to hit beta soon and then the stable version will arrive. Exporting should be available across the line on Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android.

WhatsApp's New Terms of Service Leaked

WhatsApp recently submitted the latest 2.18.57 version of its app to the Google Play Beta Program. While the update has not many visible changes, an online report claims to have gotten hold of WhatsApp's "Terms of Service (ToS)" that are all set to change significantly in the coming stable updates. The purported ToS reveal that WhatsApp will soon start sharing user data with parent company Facebook. Users will also get the ability to block businesses jumping on to the platform courtesy of the recently launched WhatsApp for Business platform.

The Facebook-owned messaging service apparently did not do a great job at hiding these objectionable Terms of Service, as WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo recently got hold of them in the latest beta version of the messaging app. The website has posted an entire list of the new ToS which reveal that WhatsApp will soon be sharing personal information with "Facebook Companies" although "it [information] will only be used to provide services to WhatsApp." While it is unclear whether this translates into enhanced ad tracking or not, the ToS reaffirms that "nothing you share on WhatsApp, including your phone number, will be shown on Facebook or any of the Facebook Company Products, unless you choose to show it."

Additionally, the ToS state that sharing posts from sister concern platforms like Facebook and Instagram will soon be easier on WhatsApp. The messaging app will also work with products under the Facebook banner to promote and extend the services to users on those platforms.

Another revelation from the Terms of Service claims that WhatsApp is working on certain features to help businesses get on to the app faster. These include collaborating with Facebook companies to offer users with "sponsored content/ ads from these businesses." From the tone of it, the decision seems to a great departure from co-founder Jan Koum's no-advertising philosophy and even this official blog post from 2012. It seems Facebook is finally looking to put those billions of dollars to work after it acquired WhatsApp back in 2014.

The Terms of Services also note that WhatsApp shares information with other Facebook Companies to ensure the safety of users on the platform by removing things like hate speech, dangerous activity, and abusive content. In this section, however, WhatsApp admits that it will share information such as personal phone numbers, profile names, businesses you interact with, device details, and, most importantly, sponsored content/ ads.

Uber concludes with Waymo on self-driving

Uber has conjointly united not to use Waymo's technology in its self-driving cars, though it maintains it never did. One of the Uber's chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi, expressed "regret" over the way his company had handled the issue.
In a statement, he aforesaid to Waymo: "While we can't agree on everything going forward, we have a tendency to agree that Uber's acquisition of Otto might and will are handled otherwise".
Otto was a self-driving company co-founded by former Google worker Anthony Levandowski.
It was inherited by Uber for $650m in 2016.
The deal comes after few days in a San Francisco federal court during which former Uber chief Travis Kalanick took the stand, He was defendant of orchestrating a concept to steal quite 14,000 confidential files from Waymo when the firm was still part of Google.
It is currently closely-held by Google's parent company, Alphabet.
The jury was shown internal emails referencing demands Mr Kalanick was said to have made.
He needed "pounds of flesh" from Google, it was claimed. Mr Kalanick mentioned he used the phrase "from time to time".
A vistors' pass for Mr Levandowski - dated at a time he was still working at Google - was also produced as evidence.

Uber's defence was that there was no proof it had used any of the controversial secrets in its technology, a foothold it still holds. "We don't believe that any trade secrets created their approach from Waymo to Uber," said Mr Khosrowshahi.
"Nor can we believe that Uber has used any of Waymo's proprietary data in its self-driving technology, we are taking steps with Waymo to ensure our Lidar and software represents
just our good work."
The jury was asked to think about whether or not Uber had used eight trade secrets - whittled down from an inventive list of 121 - in its self-driving technology.
The details of the secrets weren't created public - discussions concerning the content of the document happened ahead of the jury in closed sessions.
Waymo had sought damages, which could have totalled more than $1bn, and/or an injunction - a move that could have halted Uber's work on autonomous driving.
"We area unit committed to operating with Uber to form positive that every company develops its own technology," a Waymo representative same on Friday.
"This includes an agreement to ensure that any Waymo confidential information is not being incorporated in Uber Advanced Technologies Group hardware and software."

Mr Kalanick, United Nations agency was removed as chief last year however still sits on Uber's board, free a separate statement.

"Our sole objective was to rent the foremost proficient scientists and engineers to assist lead the corporate and our cities to a driverless future," he said.
